1. At the Kilianeum Würzburg, 14 clerics were linked with physical violence for 1911 to 1980, with 23 documented indications, 16 of them pointing to regular violence. In addition there are four lay people and 17 indications with no identifiable person. In Miltenberg there were three clerics (1948 to 1976), in Bad Königshofen six clerics (1962 to 1991) and two lay people.

2. In Würzburg, 644 punishments by "Knecht Ruprecht" are documented, 106 in Bad Königshofen and 11 further instances in Miltenberg. At the St Nicholas celebrations "Knecht Ruprecht" struck pupils on the buttocks with a rod; he was played by twelfth-graders, presumably on the initiative of prefects or directors.

How were they charged and sentenced?

1. In 2019 the law firm Cornea Franz reviewed, on behalf of the diocese, the archives of the three former boys' boarding schools. The files showed no indications of sexual abuse. Personnel files were not part of the holdings, and files before 1945 in Würzburg were destroyed.

2. The firm concludes that violence was used immediately rather than after educational influence; the right of corporal punishment is therefore excluded as a justification, although this rests on statistical evaluation alone. Individual incidents can no longer be seen as moderate, for instance when a boy suffered bleeding wounds to his head and neck. All cases are time-barred; the Bamberg public prosecutor saw no need for investigation.
